At AGA NATURE, color is never an afterthought. Every hue in our collection is drawn from the earth — from bark, berry, insect, and root — and applied through a slow, considered dyeing process that honors both material and maker.
Why Natural Dye?
Conventional synthetic dyes are among the most polluting processes in the fashion industry. Natural dyeing offers an alternative rooted in centuries of craft: pigments derived from plants, minerals, and organic matter that work in harmony with natural fibers rather than against them. The result is color that breathes, evolves, and deepens with wear.
Our Dye Sources
Cutch — Extracted from the heartwood of the Acacia catechu tree, Cutch yields warm, earthy tones ranging from soft tan to deep chestnut. It is one of the most lightfast natural dyes available, making it a cornerstone of our collection. You'll find it across our Waffle knit pieces — the Lounge-Pant, Pocket-Tee, Tie-Neck Top, Shell-Button Tee, and Pearl-Button Short.
LAC — Derived from the resinous secretion of the lac insect, LAC produces rich, warm reds and pinks with remarkable depth. Our LAC-Dyed Waffle Henley-Top carries this color with quiet confidence.
Mulberry — The fruit of the mulberry tree yields soft, dusty purples and mauves that shift beautifully depending on mordant and fiber. Our Mulberry-Dyed Modal Patch-Pocket Pant is a study in understated color.
Cochineal — One of the most storied natural dyes in history, Cochineal is derived from the dried bodies of the cochineal insect and produces vivid crimsons, roses, and lilacs. Our Cochineal-Dyed Modal Pocket-Legging brings this ancient pigment into a modern silhouette.
The Fibers We Choose
Natural dyes perform best on natural fibers. We work primarily with Modal — a soft, breathable fabric derived from beech tree pulp — and Waffle-knit cotton, both of which accept dye with exceptional evenness and retain color beautifully over time. Our Cotton Poplin pieces bring a crisp, structured hand to the collection.
Color as a Living Thing
Unlike synthetic dyes, natural colors are not static. They respond to light, water, and time — softening at the edges, deepening in the folds. This is not a flaw. It is the nature of the material, and it is what makes each piece genuinely one of a kind.
We believe that the most enduring things are made slowly, with intention. AGA NATURE exists to bring that philosophy into your wardrobe — one naturally dyed piece at a time.
