THE LORE

THE LORE

The color you see
is not the color you get.

Red onion is visually defined by purple-red rings. That makes it easy to expect the same family of color on cloth. Natural dyeing is less literal: the visible color of the source and the finished textile do not have to match.

The source creates the expectation.

THE PLANT

THE PLANT

The outer skin holds
more than one kind of color.

Red onion skin contains anthocyanins as well as flavonols such as quercetin. Published textile studies show that the finished shade can change with fiber, mordant, and process. For October, AGA NATURE is showing one actual pale-yellow expression — not claiming that red onion produces only this color.
